TOC not updating in a particular document
Hi,
In a particular document, my TOC is not updating correctly when I select it
and choose Update Field. This happens for all styles in the document. It
does not happen with other documents. I checked that "automatically update"
is enabled for all the TOC styles.
The document has an outline numbering scheme for headings 1 thru 9 and a
list numbering scheme. Not sure if this is releva...

Numbering Outline Again
I am using Word 2003
Thank you Syzanne for your suggestion. I did check my Heading 1 numbering and
everything appears to be correct. All the numbers are shaded, they all say
they follow the previous level and the headings are correct. But I am still
having a numbering problem beginning with level 3 - See my Example:

Help --- Merging separately numbered chapters into one book...
I've just finished a draft of a book. Each chapter is nicely organized
with numbered headings (down to level 3) and with the proper Header 1
chapter headings. I did this the way I always did it -- the way I
learned from MVP Shawna Kelly. Now I need to get the separate chapters
into one file for various reasons (e.g., so that Endnote can get all the
references into one bibliography and...

Deleting Outline Numbering in H1 does not delete numbering in H2
Hi
I'm using Word 2003. I understand from MVP site that to get a robust outline
numbering scheme, that H1 style should have the outline numbering set up for
it and that other Heading (H2,3,4 etc) should be based on H1 style(& its
numbering).
That was all working fine, however I needed to delete the numbering scheme.
I deleted it in H1, however outline numbering still appeared in H2, H3, ...

Trouble adding new styles to an existing template - similar to outline Heading 2 but centered
Using Word 2000 - Every time I try to add new styles (similar to style
Heading 2), the formatting of the new style "upsets" the formatting of
the existing style "Heading 2"
1. The new styles' numbering should follow (as does style "Heading
2") from style "Heading 1"
2. The new styles formatting should, at the very least, be centered
3. These new styles will be named something like "Support...

Heading numbering with SEQ fields in a multisectioned document
Hello all -
I have created a template for a multi-sectioned document that uses
successive SEQ fields to apply outline numbering to the headings. I
have done it this way to avoid the pitfalls associated with Word's
outline numbering system. The numbering works fine, as long as the
writer is working on one, long multisection document.
My problem is as follows: Some of the writers work on s...

get it to do what I want - it always wants to do what it wants. Can anyone
help me LEARN how to use the outlineing feature correctly?

"1"? If not directly is there any simple trick to solve that problem?
This is a serious problem as in slavic language you have the next problem:

Upgraded to Word 2003, automatic numbering being removed from documents
Hey all,
We just upgrdaded from Office 2000 to 2003 in the last couple of weeks.
I have a redlined document that loses it's automatic numbering after I
accept all changes in the document, save the document as something new
(to preserve original), close, then reopen the document. The majority
of my automatic numbering disappears when you reopen the document,
there are still a few paragrap...

Can't format numbering when I apply styles
This appears to be a bug, but I need a work-around, if someone has any ideas!!
I have to apply a style to everything in my documents because I import them
into a softward that converts them into online help (Flare). Flare formats
all the text on the basis of the styles I apply in Word. If I don't create
styles, I have to format everything twice, or it displays incorrectly in the

Difference Ctrl-M / Indent button
Hi,
I always thought that in Word (2003), Ctrl-M was a shortcut to the
indent-functionality, also invoked with the indent buttons on the
toolbar. However, the behaviour seems to be different:
If I create a numbered paragraph, then as the next paragraph a
bullet-paragraph, looking like
1. text
- text
then go back to the first one, and press Ctrl-M, it will move the
numbered para...
