problem copying & retain column formatting from one word doc to another
Hi. I'm trying to copy a page from one word doc to another. Page A has a section with 2 columns (which are formatted as a numbered list). (Word 2002, Win ME) When I copy Page A entirely, this section pastes as one long list. I have tried all the different 'Paste As' options (unformatted; retain original formatting; etc). I have also tried just formatting the list into 2 cols and ... it...

Increment Quote Number only when save as completes successfully
A small group of users want to create a form which increments the Quote number only after they click a control button named cmdSaveQuote to avoid losing Quote numbers if a user decides to cancel out of a quote. It is a responsibility 1-2 people will share, but only 1 person at a time will be responsible for the quotes, so very little code needs to be in place to avoid duplicate quote nu...

Paragraph [0100] rollover problem
Hello, I'm new to the newsgroup, but have read quite a few of the webpages that you link to in the FAQ. Here is a description of the problem: I have paragraph numbering in my document which I have defined in the "Bullets and Numbering" format section. I have customized the field to look like: [0001] text [0002] text .... [0010] text The problem occurs at pargraph 100, which under...

Please help! - Phantom numbering is killing me
OK, I can NOT figure out why this is happening. First, I built template with outline-numbered headings. I also built unnumbered body text styles to line up margin-wise with each numbered heading. Template is fine even with the issue I am about to describe. I then created a new document based on that template. Now, suddenly, every time I open the new document, all paragraphs with "Bod...

VB Code for Outline Numbering and Outline Bullets
I have the following code that seems to change the indents depending on what the person used for an outline previously. I even reset the list before I start but eventhough the code says to start the number position at 1", the next time it is used it may start somewhere else. How can I control the indents? Sub NumberOutline() ListGalleries(wdOutlineNumberGallery).Reset 1 ...

Comments numbering
I have a document that I've been inserting comments into. Up to comment number 19 all was well, but the 20th comment is numbered 110. All subsequent comments follow from 110 (i.e. 111, 112, 113, etc.). Any thoughts on how I can remove the jump in numbering? Tony...

Number cross reference
Does anyone know a way to have Word display text (or in this case, a number) that is referenced somewhere else in the document? The referenced number is an incremental field code and there are several items that refer back to it. I'd like to set it up so that if the field code changes, so do the two cross references. I guess I'm looking for something sort of like the =cell reference tha...

Comment and question for Shauna Kelly
Hope you read this :) I was stumbling over the numbering of figures in Appendices and tumbled into your FAQ. Great stuff. Comment: In that section you discuss a workaround on how to build a List of figures because the table can't include two caption labels ( make two tables and then hide the paragraph break between two tables). Ahh, but it can...use styles instead of captions to build ...

Starting page number on page 3
I have a multiple page document. I would like the footer, which says Page X of Y to BEGIN on page 3. The first two pages of the document shouldn't have a page number. Surely this can be done. So how? The Numbering UI in Office 2003 is the worst UI in the history of the world!!!!
Sorry, had to get that off my chest... I've wasted countless hours over the years trying to get it to do what I want... and I don't mean "do what I want in the body of the document", I mean just "save what I input". You get something setup all nice, hit ok, and then it decides to do something a little different. Close, but never quite what you put in... never what it was displaying bef...

Number steps in procedures using Field Codes
I've read everything I can find on the Internet about the auto-numbering problem in Word. I'm using 2003. I understand the theory (I think), but I need to find a solution. I am writing manuals for a software company, and I need to have a series of procedures in the books. I want to have very stable numbering, and from what I've read, I should use the ListNum field. Everyone seems to be u...
