index cards
Hi, I'm trying to make flash cards as a study aide. I've set the page size to fit 3" x 5" index cards by clicking File>Page Setup>Paper. I set the Paper Size to "custom" and set the width to 5" and height to 3". I've placed images and vocabulary words on odd-numbered pages and definitions on even-numbered pages. I'm planning to load blank index cards into my printer and print "Odd Page...

can I use 2 different types of numbering in an index
I am using Word 2003 at work. We have a "Closing Binder Index" that was already set up with automatic # using Heading1, Heading2 and Heading3. It is ONLY an Index and there are no other pages in the document. I want to use automatic # on the right side for the TAB (so far we are at TAB 153). I tried LISTNUM but it resets the TAB # back to 1 when it is used at Heading3 in the Index. ...

Outline Numbering for Headings and Body Text Working Together with updates to Styles
I am using Word 2003, but this problem has been dogging me for years. I thought I had it skun until today and now I am stumped. Most of our large documents are technical reports and require a numbering setup like this: 1. Heading 1 1.1 Heading 2 1.1.1 Body 3 1.1.2 Body 3 2. Heading 1 2.1 Body 2 3. Heading 1 3.1 Heading 2 3.1.1 Heading 3 3.1.1.1 Body 4 3.1.1.2 ...

Restarting list numbering using a higher level style
Hello all, I have used the procedure named SetUpNumberedLists() and found on Margaret Aldis's website. After copying the procedure's body from the web and paste it "as is" in a new template project Module, I have run it and the results were great. After the procedure was completed, I have noticed that the document (template in this case) had 4 ListTemplate objects and not only th...

Tab key not doing what it's supposed to do
On my home computer in numbered lists beginning at, say, 1, when I go to the next line I get 2, which is expected. Hitting the TAB key, however, doesn't advance to the next level, "a." 2 stays in place and an extra tab marker goes in instead. Oddly, my office computer DOES advance to the next level when I hit TAB. I've done everything I know to do to make the TAb go to the next level. I'...

Paragraph [0100] rollover problem
Hello, I'm new to the newsgroup, but have read quite a few of the webpages that you link to in the FAQ. Here is a description of the problem: I have paragraph numbering in my document which I have defined in the "Bullets and Numbering" format section. I have customized the field to look like: [0001] text [0002] text .... [0010] text The problem occurs at pargraph 100, which under...

Word changed Num. List from No Style to based on Normal
I carefully set up my bullets and numbering following Shauna Kelly's instructions in http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bullets/controlbullets.html and http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. At the top level of each, I set "Style based on" to "No style." Now when I go back to look at the style, I see where "Style based on" is set to Normal. Why did this happen, an...

TOC entries get wrong page numbers
Well I read the MVP numbering site and thought I was doing this right, but apparently not. I have a document that must be numbered by chapter-section-page. It's not my choice and I can't change it. For numbering I used heading styles 1-3. Heading 1 is not numbered (I've numbered it as well), heading 2 and 3 are. Numbering is controlled from the heading 1 style. Page numbers are generate...

pageref woes
I am using word 2000 with sp 3. In my document I have to create a weird TOC: the "chapter names" entries are to be in blue but leader dots and page numbers in black. The only way I figured out how to do that is to bookmark the chaptes and construct each "TOC entry" as hyperlink to the chapter bookmarks + pageref field to the bookmark. On top of this, I have a VBA macro users need to run to a...

Numbering not resetting to 1 with new list
I created a list scheme (List 1 style is the Top level, List 2 style is Level 2 (a.), List 3 style is Level 3 ii., etc.) using Shauna Kelly's "How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in your Microsoft Word document." Now when I go to apply it, the first number in one particular list is set to 8. I've checked the styles, and my Level 1 is set to start at 1, and each of the Lowe...

Changing font within the 'number' of an outline number
Is there an easy way to change the font within the 'number' of an outline numbered list? To give an example: 1.2.3 Example I would then like the '1' to appear in bold, the '2' in italic superscript, and the '3' in 24 pt flashing Helvetica Bold. (Whether this would be useful is an entirely different matter, but you get the idea.) As far as I could make out, Word's GUI only allows me to...

Heading 2 Problem
Recently, we have been having trouble with the 'Heading 2' style. We have a macro that runs and createds a document. There are certain lines that are set as 'Heading 2'. When we open the document after the macro has run, I can see the line that was set as heading 2, but there is no number in front of it. It should be '1 - First Item', instead it shows as just 'First Item'. Looking at the Styl...

formatting challenge
I'm having real trouble trying to get my outline text to wrap neatly at ALL outline levels. I'm using MS Office for Mac By adjust tabs in the top of the doc, I can get items at Level 2 of my outline to indent and wrap neatly (i.e. every line starts at the same point on the page, even when the text wraps to a second, third or fourth line). Page X of Y not staying
I will type in auto fill "Page X of Y" in my headers. I have a page break, and the "X of Y" needs to be added after the first page, where the header is different. When I close and reopen, the "Page X of Y" is reverted. It no longer says " 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3", it says "1 of 1, 2 of 1, 3 of 1". And yet I have saved as the former each time.
