Writing changing headers in each page in a dictionary
I'm writing a repertory. This is a kind of medical dictionary formatted the
same way a dictionary is. It has 2 columns. Headings in each page include
the inicial first column word at left side and at right side must be the
second column last word.
This had been a hard task for me because I can't control so much ever
changing section jumps.
Does somebody knows a way to do this?
Perhaps...

How to eliminate line-breaks but preserve blank lines?
I received a basic Notepad file which I need to convert to Word. The Notepad
file contains unwanted line-breaks which break every line at about 60
characters. I want to eliminate all line breaks except for line-breaks
immediately before and after a blank line, since these are effectively
paragraph separators. How can I do this?
Thanks very much for your help.

Table
I received a .doc file to imbed into a master doc. The table inserts
just fine and it seem to be a simple(4X2) table with each slot
containing a business card. I can not tell what each slot contains but
would guess it's a .jpg/bmp. I can click on table entry and it will
allow me to massage it with format picture and why I think it's probably
jpg although I don't think what is in the sl...

Title page
I'm looking for suggestions on formatting the title page to my thesis.
This is supposed to be centered vertically on the page, with several
blocks of text for the title, the school and department, the degree and
my name... it is quite easy to do if I just put carriage returns
between lines, but I often see, in reading posts on this group, that I
shouldn't do this... more immediately, when I s...

would like a recommendation or ideas
hi
I've got a client who use word for book creation i.e. User books which
demand TOC, indexes, chapter creation leading to putting the whole book
together. Master/Sub documents do not work for them in consolidating all
elements of the book. They've had someone create a few macros for them to
automate parts of the work but will soon not have access to that person.

Can I copy formatting from a template to many docs?
Or maybe someone can suggest an alternative solution. Here's my situation:
I have several large documents with many sections each. They are set up
correctly using styles for most formatting (headings, normal text, etc.). I
want to reformat all of them to use the styles and layout I've created in a
separate template document. Specifically, I want to replace the page layouts
(margins), an...

Equal column heights in newspaper columns
Hi,
I am working with a two-column, newspaper-style document in Word
2003, and I would like to force the column heights to be equal. I've
tried toggling the "Windows/Orphan control" option, which helps a little
bit, but the column heights are never really equal. I'd appreciate any
suggestions.
Thanks,

Paragraph Styles
I've been doing a lot of reformatting recently. I've found in a few
documents that when I try to apply a style, e.g heading 1, the style
being applied is e.g heading1,level1,caps,bold. It's as though that
'formatting' has attached itself to my style. The only way I've found
to get round it is to copy my document into a blank template, make the
whole document 'normal' style, then apply the ...

Formatting In Use (Style and Formatting Task Pane) Slow + Incorrect?
Hi,
I'm tidying up a document of about 130 pages - no graphics but lots of text
and tables.
I have rationalised most of the document replacing the manual formats with
styles, using CTRL+Q and CTRL+Space, etc.
The Style and Formatting task pane is showing some left over manual
formatting, e.g. Table Text + Right and claiming just one or a few
instances. Attempting to select the ins...

Any way to write-protect certain characters?
I have a long document separated by sections. Others edit the document,
and sometimes they delete the section breaks then save the document. The
messes up all my headers and footers, which depend upon the section marks.
I am hoping there is a way to write-protect the section breaks. I know
that seems unrealistic, but I am hoping to get lucky.
Am I lucky?

Equivalent command for repaginate now?
Hi,
Me again! I seem to recall when back when PCs were slow, a command (under
tools?) called repaginate now. The command forced Word to recalcuate page
breaks/numbering, well, now.
I'm waiting upwards of 30 seconds to see the changes I'm making to column
widths on a table (doc is 130 pages, I'm on a 1.8Ghz PC with 1 gig ram with
not much else running).
Can I speed this up at all? ...

Word 2003 - shift/return problem
Hi - I'm trying to format a long document for a directory. It was given
to me with 'shift/return's at the end of each line/paragraph instead of
just 'return's. As a result each time I try to, for instance, justify a
section, it effects the entire text and it's driving me insane. If
anyone could tell me a way to, in effect, split the text up, or replace
the 'shift/return' for a full return, I'd be...

I'll be working on an Appellate Brief for an attorney. I understand
that the page layout may appear different on-screen, between his
computer and mine. I understand that if I install a printer driver
for HIS printer, that I can get my on-screen display to look the same
as it will print out. Even though I don't have the printer itself.
How do I go about this?

Problem: Word and PowerPoint "reinterpret" fonts/formatting on others' docs
Hi there,
I've been having a problem for a while, and I'm not sure what to do
