Adding Outline Styles to a template
I have added 6 more outline numbered styles to a template which is attached
to all our documents.
Whilst the new styles are visible when creating new docs based using this
template, they are not available when editing previous docs created using the
older version of the same template. I thought that when you open an existing
doc, the new styles would automatically be available once the...

Can you have more than one TOC in a document
I work with large legal documents. Some of them have separate
documents attached to the original which actually forms part of the
schedule. My question is am I able to generate a separate TOC for
these schedule documents which will show the numbered clauses from
those docs. My main TOC consists of heading1 styles and the schedule
headings only. I have separate clause numbering for the sch...

Getting extra blank page at section break
First of all, I've been through the blankpage (or whatever it was
called) FAQ.
The behavior I'm seeing acts like one of my section breaks decides to
become an odd page rather than next page break. The document is
intended to be 20 pages. I can be sitting with 19, and need to insert
one more. Somewhere I'll force a new page, either by a section break
(next), page break, or just adding blank...

Different top margins/footnotes
Greetings!
This is my first post in a couple of years, so please bear with me.
I recently assisted someone with a doctoral dissertation.
1. The document had seven chapters.
2. The first page of each chapter had a 2" top margin; all subsequent pages
had 1" top margins.
3. Each chapter has footnotes. Footnote numbering restarts from 1 for each
chapter.
I set the first page ...

Headers don't appear in print layout view, do in print preview
Hello,
I'm working on a large document, trying to strip out all the direct
formatting and replace it with styles. I've picked this document up from one
that's been through many hands. I have W2003, others had a variety of
earlier versions including Word for Mac. The first thing I did was accept
the changes in the "track changes" and turn tracking off.
I can't see the headers and foot...

Master Doc and deleting Section Breaks
I read from a reference here that section breaks are the major cause
(or A major cause) of Master corruption. Instructions said to delete
all section breaks, but.... that is not allowed on Master Documents.
You can't delete the section breaks. Do you have to create a macro or
something to do this?
I am resorting to Master only because I have about 15000 page document
and the "customer" w...

Formatiing a doc that has portrait and landscape layout pages
Hello,
I am writing a thesis and I'm using a template for it. No problems, until I
came to the appendix section.
Here is the issue.
I want to insert many tables with text into the appendix. However, these
were all created as individual Word documents where the page is in landscape
layout and the table covers the whole page.
In order to keep the original size to the table, I changed the l...

How to properly manage styles in Word 2003?
Hi,
When we add format to a paragraph based on some style1, the style1 +
format will also show up in the style window, then I save that as
style2, one more style. After a while, there are a lot of messy styles
and formats in the style window, most of them are not useful. Could any
tell me how to properly manage styles in Word 2003, particularly in the
cases of technical writing, master's t...

Multiple document index uses docs showing fields
I recently discovered the RD field technique for making one index of
multiple documents, but I need some help. It appears when I try to
insert the index, Word makes the XE fields in the individual documents
visible, therefore throwing off all of the page numbers. Is there a
way I can make Word use the documents with the fields not visible?
I've been playing around with turning pagination on...

TOC broken into Chapters without use of Bookmarks
Hi
I've inherited a template. Chapter 1 is listed in it manually.
It has a blank TOC1 row, ie
TOC1 (this line has no data in it) then
TOC2 { TOC\o "1-3" \h \z then
Header }
This TOC generates a new TOC for each Chapter on a new page. I'm not
really sure how.
It then has the Header style (a paragraph style with no apparent
outline level assigned) applied in...

Repeat Logo in Footer
Hey All
I'm working on a series of long docs and one of my desires is to have a
logo in place on the title page of each document, with links throughout
to something like 30 footer sections (guessing I can have this many at
this stage!)
I am currently bookmarking my image, inserting a reference,
cross-reference field in footer and reducing the image size to 30% once
it's in there. While I s...

length at the end of a document of up to a few hundred pages. I want
