Lines look skinney, but print big and fat.
I created a lot of lines across the page in my documents by inputing 3
or mor underscores, then hitting the enter key. These lines are acutally
the bottom side of an outside border. They look perfect on the screen, and
also when I do a print preview. When I actually print them, however, those
lines come out about 4 points fatter than they apprear on the screen or in
the preview. ...

Forms? Checkboxes? Gray Shading?
What have I got here? Some kind of a form -- it's got
checkboxes. If you click on one, you get a dialog box. They have
gray shading.
I want to keep the checkboxes, and I'd like a user to pick one
and check it. But I don't want the dialog boxes or the gray shading.
I'm dealing with something new -- for me. ;-) Using Word 2000 on
XP Home.

Master document and section numbering issues and what about Chapter label?
Greetings
I have a long document spread across 8 separate files. I know how to create
a master document, but when I put all the files into the master, the section
headings all have the same numbering. That is, instead of 1.1 I get 5.1.
For file 2, I get 5.1 instead of 2.1. Etc. I think this occurs because in
each individual file I changed the Heading 1 style to the corresponding
chapter (...

Body Text vs Normal
Hi,
My company has undergone a few mergers and I am now tasked with
standardizing our style sheets across offices. I'd like some advice on this.
The templates I have been using till now use "Normal" as body text rather
than a specific style called "Body Text" or similar. (One of our offices
uses "Body Text".) Most tech authors seem to advocate staying away from
Normal, but I ...

Styles and endnote problem
Hello,
I have the folowing problem with my 360 page word xp document. It will not
let me use the endnote feature. Word gives the message that the number needs
to be between 1 and some astronomical number. Even when the number would be
1 for the first endnote. When I start with a new document I do not have a
problem. Now I thought just copy part of the document in a new document, and

Paragraph "Outline Level" is changing to Level 1
I am using Word 2002 with styles. When I right-click and go to Paragraph,
some of the styles under "Outline Level" are changing to Level 1 where it
should stay at BodyText. However, when I go to modify the style, the
"Outline Level" is properly set to BodyText. I can press Control Q to clear
the "Level 1", but when I save the document, it reverts to Level 1 again.

Global Find/Replace to get titles into TOC..!!
Hi all,
Note: My aplogies for my earlier multipost! Thanks to all help I
recieved!
I am writing a very looooong test plan (I am a verifier) and I have
about 100 test cases. What I need to do is do a global search and
replace to update each of the titles with an 'outline level of 3" (I
think this is correct) so that the titles will appear in the table of

How to lock styles to prevent changes?
I have a lot of documents created with the same styles, and I have a
tendancy to inadvertantly chang them by dragging the mouse around and

I solved the problem up to now by having them set for auto update from
the initial template. The link to the template, however, is vulnerable and
I want the documents to stand on their own. Once I break the link...
