Word 2003 table indentation problem
I'm running Word 2003 (without any service packs) on a Windows XP Pro SP2 system. My document is currently 97 pages long, with a number of tables on certain pages. My problem is, that for no reason whatsoever, Word decided to change the left indentation of all the tables in my document so that all of them are 0.85cm indented. I can solve the problem by highlighting the...

Infestation of Char Char formatting
Recently documents based on one of our regularly-used Word templates have been beset by the styles changing to Char Char. The affected documents seem to originate from one user's computer. For example, on Friday I worked on a document where all our usual styles were correctly applied. He then made some minor changes and returned the document to me. When a paragraph is selected almost any...

Word 2003: Applying a character style to the first sentence of every paragraph.
I've searched the newsgroup and was unable to locate an answer to my question, so here it goes... Our users are looking for a way to apply the character style called First Sentence, (which includes bold and underline), globally throughout long documents without having to manually apply it. I've under the Find and Replace option in Word 2003 but can't find how to do this. Is it even po...

??? What's the point to Word 2003?
Good lord -- can't we ever get to a point where we can leave well enough alone? What is the point to Word XP, and now Word 2003? Word 2000 works just fine. As far as I can tell, these newer versions just have more garbage you have to turn off in order to keep Word working for you, not against you. Rant. <*((((><{ Fishy@Ocean.Net...

Styles and formatting task bar - "Select all" greyed out W2003
Using the Styles and Formatting task bar, I am finding that the "Select All" option is no longer available although it has been until now. This is happening for styles that are in use and which have been selected at the cursor - all other styles functions are available. The "Select All" button (along side the "New Style" button and below the "Formatting of selected text" box) is greyed ou...

bookmarks, hyperlinks and back
Hello everyone. I hope that I have posted to the appropriate group. In order to make links within the same document, I have bookmarked the target text, using a hyperlink in order to reach that point. My problem is how to easily get back to the original section being read at the time, bearing in mind that the targeted text may need to be referenced from several points within the documen...

cross-refs across included documents
I'm trying to assemble a large document, and many of the included (sub-)documents refer to the same illustrations. The illustrations all go into one file of their own. This results in several advantages: one image can be repeatedly cited and still easily found; the whole run of illustrations can be printed on a different paper stock; it eliminates problems from Word's shoddy text flo...

How to restrict footers to sections.
I am trying to combine many Word 2003 documents into one. Each footer should identify the document from which it came. I am having 2 problems: * If I start a footer in section 2, it shows up in secton 1, even through there is a continuous or "next page" section break. .. * Inserting a section break will cause each footer to identify itself as applying to a different se...

Formatting the Endnotes Style
Hello, I have a word XP document with endnotes at the end of the document. I want to have the endnotes indented, but it seems to not let me create a style. If I want to change the style, it tells me something like 'underlying properties' and I can not change the paragraph style. Is there any way to change this style or solve that problem other than manually formatting it? Thanks Oc...

Switches in Table of Authorities - retain formatting does not retain character styles
Just a short note that I've discovered the switch in the Table of Authorities field to retain original formatting does not work if that formatting is applied using a character style. It does work if the formatting is applied using direct formatting. Once the TA field is generated, it is the formatting contained in the field's long citation that is used, not that in the original entry. B...

Modify default formatting of pasted text
Is there a way that you can make default formatting of pasted text to ALWAYS match destination formatting, instead of having the little menu come up and having to choose that option each time. Normal.dot versus blank document template
I have been involved in several discussions regarding this recently and would like to try and clear this up. My firm hold the normal.dot (and all other templates) in a central templates folder on our network. Each user has a copy on their C drive which updates every day when they log on. This means if the network crashes they can still work with their template(s). Normal.dot contains all ...
