unable to open excel file
I cannot open an excel file on the network, an error occur that
"filename.xls cannot be accessed.The file may be read-only,or you may be
trying to access a read-only location.Or, the server the document is stored
on may not be responding"
The excel file was not a read only and I can access other on the network.I
used excel 97 SR-2. I already try to open the file on excel 2000 SR-3.

SUMIF,SUMPRODUCT
I have a spread sheet with columns
D= Weekstart (1/1/2006), E=weekend1/7/2006, These are to test a range for
each week and then I=workday 1/3/2006, J=hours (4)
I want to sum all the hours by week into F . All the column data is set up
for the year, but I can't see how to make the formula and test a range of
dates. Do I use sumif or sumproduct?...

Can I change the default for custom filters?
"Custom filte" always begins with "Show rows where <field name> EQUALS ..."
I almost always use CONTAINS. Can I change the default so that it'll
automatically display CONTAINS as the starting criterion? If so, how? I'm in

How do I sample hourly data one time per day
I have hourly data from an instrument and would like to reduce the data set
(see example below) to one point per day, either by selecting a specific time
(e.g., 00:00) each day, or by averaging all of the values for one day. The
data files may contain more than one month's worth of data per file (i.e.,
quite large files).

Import Data From Landscape Format
I have a data set from an old Pascal program that was exported into
this fomat:
ID # : 10106
Sex : Female
Raw Scores : 1 4 1 0 3 6 3
T Scores : 53 114 65 43 64 83 42
I need the headers to be ID#, Sex, Raw Scores 1-7 and T Scores 1-7 and
then to pick up the data and place it in the appropriate cell.
Is there a script that will accomplish this?

Trying to delete info in a cell
I have 1 column of information with over a thousand rows of info. I want to
just delete some info in the cell and keep the rest. Anyone have any idea how
to do this? Here's an example of my info:

inserting special character in a cell as a macro
I'm trying to copy 5600 items and I need to use a macro to save some time.
I have a column with numbers represented as text.
For example 01234 as text. the cell adjacent to it is a city ie. Los Angeles

Cannot open Excel files.
i cannot open any excel files directly from there location. When i try to
access the file, it will open the program to the point just before the
workbook is about to be displayed and hangs. No error messages are created
and the system does not hang. I can however, open excel files from within
excel.
Any ideas how to fix this problem?

sorting
i have data in column A that i want to sort by the numbers after the dash.
here is an example of the data.
105487-130
159755-130
156789-140
135444-120
the number behind the dash indicates a ship to location that i want to group
this data by. i have about 200 entries in col A and about 5 different types
of extensions(the number after the dash).

Help with referencing please
I'll try and explain exactly how my spreadsheet is laid out and what i'm
trying to achieve.
The sheet is designed to log newspapers and wakeup calls that are ordered by
guests in a hotel. I have the newspaper side of things working as intended,
but the wakeup calls are giving me a headache.

Typing in the term 1-30 in a cell always returns the date Jan-30. I

Don't merge cells?
Thanks for your response, Roger. I am aware of this feature but I can't get it to produce the same effect as merging cells will. Am I missing something?
Let's say I have Jan Feb Mar ........ starting from A2 and going across.
Above the months and in row 1, I want to include a heading say "Monthly forecast for the year of 2007."

F9 function key
Hi,
Today I am learning F9. From Help:-
"F9 followed by ENTER (or followed by CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER for array formulas) calculates the selected portion of a formula and replaces the selected portion with the calculated value."

WEEKDAY()
Regarding WEEKDAY(), I read that problems can occur if dates are entered as text.
Based on this, it is understandable that =WEEKDAY(2/14/2008) returns a wrong result (7). This is because general format is same as text.
If I enter =WEEKDAY(DATE(2008,2,14)), I get the correct result (5).

Is there any way of locking all cells next to each other accross so that the
