how to group a pivot table
My sales guys want to see MTD, YTD and LY columns for their sales data.
I have a database which indicates the month of the sale and the sales amount
and a pivot table which shows the summary. I can group by month and year,
then for last year, I hide the detail which gives me LY sales total. For the
current year, if I hide the detail I can get the YTD number, but not the MTD

How can I keep my cursor from being captured in excel?
When working in Excel suddenly my cursor "gets captured" by becoming a plus
sign and no matter where I try to move it it just keeps on highlighting cells
forever. How can I turn this funtion off?...

My Excel files are not being saved as I put them in.
I am using a shared workbook and every time I save the workbook (I am the
primary user) and reopen, the data is different. It moves things from one
sheet to another, will change information in a given cell. I did run a virus
scan, but have found nothing out of the ordinary. Has anyone else had this
problem? What did you do to resolve it? I can't take the chance that my
data is incor...

Autofit cuts off part of text when printed
Hi,
I have wrapped text and autofit cells in my worksheet. When I print off the
worksheet, the last line in each cell is partially cut off. I adjusted the
rows manually to enusre my text is not partially cut off, but now, the wrap
text feature is not adjusting the cells to fit the text. Help!!

Please tell me there is a way!
There must be a way.
I need to type the Worksheet (Tab) name in cell A1 of Worksheet "A" and
have the data from a specific cell in that Worksheet (B,C,D whatever)
returned to B1 of Worksheet "A". All the Worksheets are in the same Workbook.
The tab names will be differant, and many, depending on the Workbook and
Worksheet "A" will be copied to many Workbooks....

Error Message
I keep getting the following error message when Excel is opened:
"Cannot use object linking and embedding"
which is followed immediately by the message:
"An error occurred initializing the VBA libraries (14)"
I have removed and installed Office 2003 twice. Excel works OK for a day or
so then the messages come back.
I have checked the machine for viruses and nothing comes back.

PV, NPER, PER and FV
I am trying to simulate some market returns for a retirement investment
portfolio.
I have the PMT function working well.
example:
want income of $250,000, for 32 years, 3% withdraw rate, overall
portfolio value (PV) is $5,097,000.
This is only an estimate- the purpose was to find the aprox value of an
investment portfolio which would yield $250k of income.

Autofilter dropdown box doesn't show all the choices in the colum
I have Autofilter turned on in Excel, but the dropdown box does not show all
the options that are listed in the column. For example, in that column i have
3 names listed... Elizabeth, Jason, and Fred. But the dropdown box on the

Excel 2007 Cube access problems
The Excel 2007 Beta has some bugs/issues preventing many of the BI reports
from working that work today with Excel 2003 and OWC 11 with SSAS 2005.
1. The MDX generated by the Pivot Table uses the MDX Subcube filter rather
than the MDX WHERE clause. This prevents all the time series (e.g.
PrevPeriod) from working. Typical UI tools for SSAS2005 have 2 filter fields
for each type of filter...

have a work book and i need to make multiple copies of one particular sheet,
when i right click on a work sheet tab there are the options there - one of

How do I have a cell highlight when selected?
Is there a way to click on any cell either with tab or arrow key and that
cell automatically highlights in a color such as red? This is requested so
that if a person is working in a long spreadsheet with alot of statistics,
they will be able to see the cell that they have selected as it will be

SumIf with discontinuous cells?
I need to use the SumIF (and SumProduct) on a collection of summary row cells
that have sub-component data between them and are therefore discontinuous. A
comma is used to separate these values in the formula, but a comma is also
used to separate the three components of the SumIf formula syntax....so it is
not working. I tried putting extra parens around the range data, but still
doesn...

Excel file does not deleted
Dear All
Some times what happens that computer get shut down while an excel/ms word
file kept opened. after I restart the computer, file opens as read only and
if I want to delete the file, it does not get deleted , or cant be moved to
another folder or even it cant be renamed. How to tackle this problem

filling a form in Excel... lookup? maybe?
I would like to find a way to pull values (mostly text) from an Excel 2003
spreadsheet and put them into a form in another worksheet. I'd like to find
a way to change the information in the form by entering the client's name and
have the function pull the last entry for that client from the original
spreadsheet.
I vaguely remember there might be a way to do this with the lookup func...
