Restore missing Excel icons?
I have Microsoft Office Pro 2000, SP-3. I have several Excel spreadsheets
stored on my desktop. Today all my icons disappeared. The files seem intact
and the outline of the original icon remains, but it is blacked out. What is
causing this and how do I fix it? Nothing has been installed or modified

extracting info related to maching entries
I have a table with various fields of information in each cell.
one column has a list of names, these are repeated randomly throughout the
column.
i want to creat a chart from information relating to each name. So I need to
search through the list and wherever the name entry equals for example, aaa
in column b, i need the related info for each maching name from column A.

Problem with MS Query in Excel
Not sure where to post this question. but here goes...
The problem that I have has to do with using Microsoft Query (launched in MS
Excel)with a "Microsoft ODBC for ORACLE" connection.
Whereas I can connect to this using SQLPLUS, I cannot connect to it from
Excel...Data ...Import Data....New Database Query.

Lost of data in a sahre file after several saves!!!
Hi I hope someone can help me..I got an excel file which is a shared
file and share across with staff to update and revise some info on it.
But lately I found some data bn revised there suddenly gone once I hit
save, it seems it gone back to maybe 3 or 4 "Saves" before. This
happens more frequent than ever after I have put in a Macros script
there.

Set up costing sheet for multiple component recipe.
Hi,
We are a small business and do our costings on an excel spreadsheet. We have
a list of ingredients with costs and these are matched up with quantity to
work out total costs. We have 200+ recipes and this is very messy -
especially if ingredient prices change. If we use a data link to a single
ingredient cost file, I would think this will also be cumbersome? Is there an

Replace Vlookup with a macro
I have a huge excel sheet being shared over the network the problem is that
when i run vlookup and save the file the file size goes very big. also the
data is really huge in these and its really inconvenient to run vlookup again
and again. i want to automate the process that when i open the workbook i

Missing the security tab
I used to have a tab labeled security when I clicked on properties of any
document. It has disappeared. I have disabled the simple sharing and still

Conditional Formatting across many cells with a mobile comparison
My description was probably more confusion than helpful but here we go...
C4 has a hard coded value in it.
The range C8:V8 has values created due to a formula (say something like D8
has =SUM(C8,D7) and E8 has =SUM(D8,E7).
Now I've got another formula value in C12:V12, that I want used in the
comparison.

Print Page Numbers
Is it possible to create a formula that returns the page number relating to a
particular cell?
For example, I have a print range set up that has multiple pages and I would
like to determine what page number a particlar cell, say "F123", will appear
on when it is printed.

Why won't my text fully display with word-wrap and merged cells?
I am using Excel 2000. I have a merged cell (6 cells wide and 1 deep) with a
paragraph of text with word wrap enabled. After about 7 or 8 lines of text
the text does not word wrap anymore. It would be about 2 more lines.
Any ideas?...

Getting the sum of the same cell in defferent exel sheets.
I am working on a big excel sheet, and I am kinda new at it. How can I get a
sum of the values on 45 different excel sheets? I can only get the sum of
about 15 sheets for so before it says that my formulat is too long. Here is
an example of the formula: =SUM('Service Invoice (45)'!D29+'Service Invoice
(44)'!D29)
I need to get the sum of cell D29 from sheets 1-45.

Pivot Table - Drill down to source and update
Is there a way to drill down on a cell of a pivot table and update or change
the underlying source data from the pivot report? I'm afraid that the users
will have too much trouble understanding the data in a matrix or table format.

Hi all,
When I try to type in "1:500" without any formula in it plain text excel
return a value of "0.388888889". Why is that and what is the colon mean. I

Under Page Setup the page option of Ledger - for Office XP
Have someone using Excel 2002, needs to print an Excel file on Ledger size
paper. However, they do not have this choice under page setup. Reinstalled
Office using complete install - did not add this feature. Installed SP3 for
Office XP, and all the updates - still no Ledger choice??

Cannot remove read only attribute
A frequently used .xls file suddenly could not be modified because it was
labelled 'read-only'. The read only attribute can be removed but when the
file is closed and re-opened the read only has returned. Data cannot be
saved to the original file on closing. Can anyone please advise how to
remove the 'read only' attribute permanently.
