Named ranges with dependencies
I've started converting some charts I have whose data gets updated very frequently so that the charts update their data ranges automatically. For example, there is a method outlined here: http://www.j-walk.com/ss/excel/usertips/tip053.htm That uses the "Name" feature (Insert / Name / Define) to set up ranges that rely on COUNTA to see how long the range is. Cool. I'm interested in ...

Named ranges interfere with simple formulas
I am my own worst enemy. I created a macro that utilizes named ranges when it creates spreadsheets. If my users want to create their own formula and inadvertently use my named range, the results are incorrect. A simple formula they'd put in such as =d3/c3, becomes =d3/RoysNamedRange. of course, when they copy this formula down a column, =d4/RoysNamedRange is not a relative reference ...

Breaking Links
Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to break links in Excel such that it does not retain the data that is currently in that cell. What I am trying to do is set up a summary sheet that links multiple different workbooks (around 20 or so), however I want the associated linked data to become "NA" or someother irrelevant value if I delete 1 of the workbooks. In otherwords instead of breaki...

Filters and totals
I have a sheet with data that includes totals in the bottom row. I would like to be able to invoke automatic filtering such that the totals change dynamically to cover only the visible rows. I can't figure out any reasonably easy ways to do this. Folks? A second question: how can I create filters that include my Totals row without having to go in manually each time and change something? E...

"The Title of a Song" to "Title of a Song, The" possible?
I'm creating a spreadsheet of my music collection and am having trouble with the way things are sorting. 1. Data was entered as: "The Allman Brothers Band" through importing data from another source. 2. I would prefer it to be sorted as "Allman Brothers Band, The" instead. Is there a way to format the text (not each entry and not through the replace functions) to display and sort in the...
