Yesterday I was playing around with the User-Level Security Wizard. As the results, I got a mdw, bak and shortcut of my Front End file. Before I ask a few questions on what I confuse, I would like share with...

Need help with Security Step by Step Last steps
Ok. I set the security step by step today. I have set up the new workgroup file in a different drive than my "C" drive, so I'm not sure if that's what the issue is when I try to do the last steps where I creat a shortcut on my desktop. When I set up the short cut & open it. The MSys files are there for my database. Is this correct? Then as it states in the instrutions, I cannot open my...

security wizard cannot be run
I'm desperate - again! I have a database that I have been working on for some time. I applied user level security (my first ever effort) and found it to be a nightmare. Because the database needed further development, I removed the security. Can't remember exactly how as it was a trial and error method (5 million trials, 4,999,999 errors!!!). I further developed the app and now the time...

You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time.
I support an Access application that is rolled out to approximately 1000 users. The frontend and security file are pushed to a folder on their hard drive and the backend is maintained on a network server. Of the 1000 users only three are getting the error message, "You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time....." The explanation given on Microsofts knowledgebase does not...

Back End Security Flaw
Hi all, I have created a custom workgroup file that I named CogGroup.mdw. I then joined my split frontend to CogGroup.mdw and that works fine, but when I join the backend to CogGroup.mdw then the default workgroup file for Access 2003 also changes over to CogGroup.mdw. If I open Access without opening a database and change the workgroup back to the default "System.mdw" then the back...

Trouble setting up security
I'm trying to set-up security in Access 2002. I was following the step by step instructions & created a new workgroup file, then went to Tools, Security, Users and Group Accounts. Created a new user & then when I went to delete the admin I received an error, because I don't have the correct permissions to do this. So, I called the help desk & they had to call back. I closed Access & left...

I recently split my secured database and placed the back end of it on our server. I have a general logon Name for people to use which has read-only permissions. database split before or after security?
Hi Access Heros, I created a new database in Access 2003. I created a new workgroup file as owner. As owner, I created a new database and imported tables from original db for my backend. Then I created another database, as workgroup owner and imported queries, forms and reports, as frontend. Does it make sense to do it this way? Doesn't this set security on both the backend and frontend?...

Security
Okay....I created 4 Dbs and they are linked by a main table. Each DB has a separate password and I changed the start-up menu on three of the DB so the user only has access to a one form. The problem is I have not finished creating the DBs and now I cannot access anything but the forms (which of course is how I designed it). I have tried the holding down the shift key while opening, bu...

Username linked to a full name?
What I want to do is associate usernames from the login of the database to each person's real name for the purpose of comparing it to a control somewhere in the database. I have everyone's user name from the network login and I want that name to be associated with their full name. I have everything else set up to compare them. (eg. Username:jsmith to be recognized as John Smith to compa...

Admin problems
Hello everyone, My problem is that I setup my security successfully and everything was fine unit I tried to transfer my database from my laptop onto my desktop for further development. So in an attempt t...

Secure Database Without Securing Data Access Page
I have an interesting problem. In order to use a data access page that I have created, I need to store the database in a public place on the network. I want to protect the database from casual inspection from other users with access to the public share, but do not want to have the data access page protected by password. I've tried a database password and workgroup security, but bo...

Will security stay if I copy database?
I need to continue work on the database after we "go live". So, what I want to do is copy the split database to another drive to work on separately from the one the user's are viewing. Then at the end of the day, copy the one I've been updating to the drive where the database is that the users have been viewing. Is this possible w/o losing security, & messing up the split of the datab...

setting security on backend
Let me preface this by saying I have read most if not all of the articles relating to security that are frequently recommended thru this site. I thought I understood what I was doing but apparently I missed something. I am running access 2003 and have a split database. I used the security wizard to create a new mdw file and apply security to the front end database. This seems to work p...
