user and admin security
Hi I was using access 2000 and created security to my database using the security feature provided by ms access. I created security so that users login with their own password and managers with their own. This all works fine. I opened my database on another pc with access 2003 and realised that the login screen does not appear. It goes straight in. When you setup ms access security to your...

Last steps to secure my database
I have an Access 2000 database with a large number of forms and reports and it is linked to a backend data file. Against my better judgement I am having to deploy this database to a user that is intent on damaging the files so they do not work and then trying to "reverse engineer" the program to duplicate it. I need this program as locked down as possible. I have done the following: ...

Compiled Runtime Database needs new users
I have a FE/BE database. Everytime I need to add new users I have to go into the wizard and add the new user and then recompile and redeploy the FE of the database. Before I made it a runtime i could just update the security and it would look on the server at the file and be ok.. .now that it is a runtime it goes to the file that is packaged with the FE runtime. How do I edit that file th...

You do not have the necessary permissions
Hi, A user copied his access database from his laptop to the server because his laptop had to be sent in for repairs. Now we cannot get into the database on the server. Trying to update the Access Database
I have created an Access database with a Back-end. The back-end has files imported into it once a week. The problem I am having is when we try to update the back-end with the new data, people are still logged into it. I get a message saying the datbase is open in READ ONLY MODE and changes can not be made. At the present time we have to call IS and ask them to find out which users ...

errors when accessing from a shedlued DTS SQL package
Problem: Created a DTS package to get information from a MSAccess Database. We used an ODBC to get access, and configured it to use the sysem.mdw (Security file). When we run the DTS package manual (meaning by right click/execute) the package runs and gets the data. We then scheduled the the DTS to run once a day. Now when executing this job we always get the same error. The user sqlser...

Users with read-only permissions can't view form
I am setting up security permissions. Users to whom I've assigned "read" priviliges on some subforms cannot view the blank form, but they can view any read-only form that already contains data. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to display the form? The blank tab looks like a mistake. -- susan...

Putting a database on a network
I have created a database of student information and would like to put it on the school intranet, so it is accessible to all staff. It would have to be read only, so nothing can be changed by anyone but myself. I understand that I would need to split it into a front and back end, which I think I am capable of doing. What I don't understand is how to make it so I can access it and change t...

Design Permission for tables
When synchronizing data between the server and a laptop connected to the network, some temporary tables are created, data is moved around and then the tables are deleted. Visual Basic is used in Access 2003. It works fine when I test it on my computers. When my client tries to run it, she gets the error message: Could not create; no modify design permission for table or query 'Table1'...
