Cannot open Access MDB from IE
I have put a link to a MDB on our intranet. It works fine on most of our
machines, but on a couple the dialogue box does not have an option to open
the file, just to save it or cancel. We all run the latest version of IE, and
the folder permissions are set to full control.
The database is in 2002 format and was created in Access 2003.
Can anybody help?...

distribution and security
I see how you could have a short cut to use a particular mdw file on a
laptop. But if I want to distribute this database, how do I make it so the
same security is the same on all laptops? Do I have to distibute the mdw
somehow?
Thanks...

Can Access create a tracking?
Hi, I'm trying to figure out if Access can create a tracking which can tell
me who's entering to my database, what's the user do and which changes he
made. Is like tracking every step the user is doing in my database. It was
one of my boss recommendations to increase security by having a tracking. I
have the log in form, which is working great.
I'll appreciate if anyone let me know how to c...

Chinese characters appear in fields suddenly
Running Win XP, Access 2002 SP3
Data fields of one record were suddenly replaced by chinese looking symbols.
These symbols can't be replaced or deleted ("Error: The search key was not
found in any record"). This happened 3 months ago as well.
Is this some kind of virus?
How can I prevent this?

Stuck trying to secure both front and back-end
I know I've done it before, but I must have mixed up the steps.
What I'm trying to do is:
1. Take an application and split it
2. Secure both the Front and Back end
3. Turn the back end into a Design master (replicable)
4. Turn the front end into an MDE.
I'm stuck with step two. I can only secure the front end
When I try to secure the back end - it tells me I'm not the owner
Tried to c...

Hello,
I need to deploy a secured database to be used to collect data for clinical
trial.
The .mdw works properly and all the permissions are fine.
But…here comes a doubt… This database is hosted on a pc that is shared among
many people and many projects. I cannot join to my .mdw since this will not
allow all others database to work properly. And in any case I don’t want to
set th...

What Permissions to Create User
Hi Folks
I use a form and code to create a New User. The code works great on the DB
Owners login but fails on the next level down login. Thought I'd set the
relevant permissions to allow it but obviously not.
Can anyone recommend the permissions I should be allowing this lower login
to allow the creation of a user.
It has (the login) Open, Run, Admin, on the actual database. Does it...

Forcing to use forms only
I have (almost) secured a database and added users/groups etc.
How do I prevent them from accessing the tables so they have to use the
forms only ?
Of course I need access to the tables etc as the Administrator.
I've read about hiding the database window on startup - I've tried that and
it works initially but if the user closes the form he just has to re-open
the database from the F...

Sandbox mode
Hi,
I'm going to deploy Office 2003 via SMS 2003. However, we keep seeing
"unsave expressions are not blocked" message when I open any Access files on
a few test PCs. We are mainly using Windows 2000 with SP4 and also the
Rollup 1 so that should take care of the Jet 4.0 part. I know that I can
click "yes" to the message "do you want to block unsafe expressions" to
prevent this mess...

DBEngine.CompactDatabase and Permissions
Hello Newsgroup
I wonder if someone has a spare 5 minutes to test something for me. I
posted to comp.databases.ms-access but have yet to receive any response.
The question is: if I want to compact a secured mdb file from another mdb,
do I need an Admins login? I think I have proved that you do not - but I
may have overlooked something.
So assuming you have a split, secured database h...

Secure Access 2000 database accessible using Access 2003
I've got an Access 2000 database that uses a specific workgroup file for

there's an icon on each desktop, and the target specified includes the
/wrkgrp option.
Up until recently, the database worked as expected: when the icon was

Linking to a temporary database that has all permissions revoked.
My main app is split into a front end/back end. When my application, MainApp,
starts up, it creates a temporary back-end database. To create this
temporary back-end database it simply takes a "model" database and creates a
copy of it. This instance of the temporary back-end database is in the same
folder as the front end and is used by the user during that session. It is
used to store th...

Mass creation of users in a Workgroup Information File (WIF)
I'm new to Access security. I was wondering two things:
1. If I have many users (100's) to add to the WIF, is there an easier way
to add them than by typing in each person's user name, PID & password one by
one in the User & Group Accounts from the Security menu? Can I import the
data from an Excel or txt file or something?
2. I was wondering how come I can't give a new user a passwo...

to try but it still shows up when I do a scan. HELP! Any ideas on what I can
do to resolve this and get rid of the vulnerability if it is indeed still
