Default user-level security
When creating a new database, the 'Users' group is defaulting to have
Administer permissions for all objects. This is in Access 2003 using a
workgroup file that has been converted from 97 (or older) to 2003. The
'Users' group in the old version of the workgroup file does NOT have any
permissions to old or new databases.
Is there a way to change it so the 'Users' group does not default...

Security torture
We had a clever employee (a nice man) who left our company with several
important databases secured by him. He used workgroups, user level security
etc. which means that to open the databases we have to use a shortcut, then
the login dialog.
We have all the the passwords (including the administrator one) but the
databases open with a default form. We are then unable to access(!) the

Passwords and alerting users if not authorized
I have a database with levels of authorization for either "Admin" or "Users".
Two questions:
1. If a user wants to open a form in edit mode, they are not allowed and
receive an error message. So far so good.
I would now like them to receive a MsgBox message, like "You are not
authorized to use this form". I am not sure which event to attach the code
on. Please advise. (OnError ...

switchboard w/ 2007 beta?
I'm kinda new to Access switchboards - and am trying it out on the
Access 2007 beta #2. Basically - I just want this:
Users (except me - developer) should see only Forms & Reports. NO
tables / queries.
If anyone has Access 2007 beta, can you explain how to do this, in
Access-newbie terms :)

Macro security in runtime version
I'm developing an ADP in 2003. I'm deploying this using the package and
deployment wizard from the developer extensions. I'd like to set the macro
security level to Low to prevent those pesky startup meesages. However, the
client PC's don't have full Access 2003 installed (or any Office 2003 apps).
Short of getting an Authenticode certificate, is there any way to set the
macro security l...

database password
We have a database with a password assigned to it in order to open it. Is
there a way to open the database without the password? (The person
maintaining it left the job and no one has the password). This isn't user
level security (with a login and password) - just a general password where
the prompt comes up upon trying to open the db.
Thanks for any help!...

User Account Access to User-Level Secured Database
I have a UL secured database (2002-2003), with two Groups (Admins, Users).
After setting up security, I've printed out the "One-Step Security Wizard"

re-constructing the WIF as necessary. However, if I modify the WIF through
the Wizard again, I don't believe I get a comprehensive copy of all WIF

Permissions Don't Seem to Be Working
I have a database (2002 - 2003) with user-level security. When I login to an
account that is a member of the Admins group, I am recognized as 'admin' by
the system, which is not the username I logged in with. I've embedded
"MsgBox Workspaces(0).UserName" in a VBA routine, and when executed displays
'admin' in the messagebox.
Furthermore, the remainder of the code in the routine will n...

database and allowing other people to use it the same time I am. Is this a
possibility? I tried to go in and create workgroups, but ended up not being
able to get back into my database. Can someone tell me how I can make my
database available to other user at the same time.
