corrupt files
On June 27th at 7:46 pm all my database files ( in the same folder)
became corrupt( Probably around 100 different files all with the same
time stamp of June 27 7:46 pm) I think the file that did it was
da8f5167.exe. I can see the data briefly in excel when the file starts
to open. In Access 97, the message starts with unrecognized file and no
data appears. I have tried a lot of stuff but none...

Adv/disadv of using Access built-in security tools vs build in db
This is a high level question.
I can think of three ways, in general, to implement Access user-level security
* Use the built in security tools to create workgroups and users
(have never done, but have read it can be tricky to implement)
* Obtain the Windows XP ID to control access to forms and database
changes
* Store user IDs and ...

Disable Security - Use the standard .mdw file - Allow external apps to connect using DAO
I have a database that I tried to implement the access security using a
stand alone .mdw security file.
I no longer want to have the security implemented and want to make the
DB completely unsecure.
I have sort of achieved this - I can now distribute the DB freely and
people can open it. But when I try to connect to the DB from external
sources (e.g. using DAO from Excel) I get the erro...

Network Security multiple users, Getting rid of the warning messag
Hi
I am implementing a database that is to be shared on a network. I was
wondering with the access security when a user is logged on and some1 else
tries to log on with the same correct details what happens? Are they allowed
on or does it say already logged on and not let u on?
Another question is to do with the annoying security messages, is there a
way to get rid of these for a par...

ldb won't delete
Hello,
I have a split DB running and when I try to open the back-end to do edits on
a table, I get a message saying that I do no have exclusive access and that
my changes may not save. When I checked the ldb files I found that there is
always two and they seem to be from the same user. I've tried to delete them
and they do but then they show up again.
Is there anything I can do?...

log in problems
When I first created the access db I created it on a local drive. There I
created the log ins and security permissions. Everything was working fine.
I recently moved it to a network drive only to discover the users I had set
up would bypass the login screen. I then moved my security files from my C:
drive to the network K: drive. Now I'm getting an error message that my
users do no...

mde file
I created a mde in a folder and copied it to other folder for other users.
Sometimes the forms and queried don't function properly. Does the mde and
mdb need to be in the same folder or can I make a mde in one folder and copy
it to other folders and make shortcuts? Also, how can I keep the size of the
mde file from growing?
Thanks...

** Security Issue While Linking Excel or Word to Access Database **
Hello --
I have recently implemented security on a networked Access database (system.
mdw is in the same network location). The security at a user level seems to
be working fine.
However, now that the security has been implemented, I am unable to link
Excel and Word documents to the database. We leverage many Excel pivot table
reports that are linked to Access via the GET EXTERNAL DAT...

How Do I Prevent Access 2003 Crash when using Digital ID & Library
I posted this as a suggestion to Microsoft several days ago. Guess that was
a mistake. Here's my problem:
When using a Digital ID in an MDB with a MDB/MDE/MDA library which also has a
Digital ID, MS Access 2003 crashes when I use Tools-Database
Utilities-Compact
Repair Database. Backup Database crashes from both File and Tools. Compact
on Exit also crashes if MDB but MDE exits OK. I...

Startup problem with runtime and no-runtime apps
This problem just cropped up about 10 days ago. When starting a program I get
the security warning dialog (No, Open, More Information). Normally clicking
Open allows the program to begin at it's startup page. I am using my
switchboard which for my app is the most logical place to begin and has
worked very well in the past. Now when I click Open the screen blanks out,
leaving me with a da...

I create a new MDW file, then created a new database using the new mdw,
then created a super user, then logged out and logged in as the super
user. Then I removed all the permissions from the admin and user. Now
when I go back to the security I can't add any users and the group tab
is missing. How can I get this back? Do I need to start over?

Preventing users opening backend
I am in the process of creating a simple split flat database using the

know this is not best practice but that is what was decided!)
I understand the backend has to b...

security reasons (some of the macros are set to read only) and quits.
