Human Connection + Programmatic Connection = Love
Not really, but hey: if one or more people open an Access database and
are modifying tables, can you also open that database via a
programmatic connection using an ODBC Access driver and have that
program modify data at the same time? I keep getting a "database is
already open" error and can't modify the data from my program. Any
ideas on why this might not work or even if it is possible?

Dreaded Run-time error "3146" ODBC--call failed HELP
I'm using Access 2002 with linked files to SQL Server 2000 (I think). I've
got a nasty query that generally works fine. It uses a nested query and is
some of the parameters are date ranged based on user input. I get the
ODBC-call failled error message when the parameters are set so that it
creates a query that takes a while to run. The query runs fine if I run it on
my development system...

Access 2000 FE/SQL Server 2000
Does anyone have experience and/or documentation vouching for the viability
of using Access 2000 as a front end to SQL Server 2000.
We have started process of converting over but are constantly getting
pressured to use VB.net or anything but Access for the front end.
We have around 25 concurrent users now and possibly 100 or more eventually
running total company accounting/quoting/inve...

sql server ODBC numeric fields showing up as text
I have literally hundreds of queries going against a back-end sql server
database. We are in the process of upgrading to the new version of this
database (a third party tool) and I'm testing the queries to make sure
they'll work with the new version of the database. There are several fields
in one particular table that are supposed to represent quantities.
Historically Access has recog...

How to make linked tables to SQL Server views read only?
Hi,
I have a MS Access as the front end, and create several linked table to SQL
Server views through ODBC. I thought by using the views on SQL Server, the
Access front end will have read only rights (that's what I want). However,
the Access front end has all the rights (insert, update, delete, select)
through the views.
How can I make the linked tables read only?
Thanks for your h...

Scaling Up with Unbound Access Applications
In "Microsoft Access Developer's Guide to SQL Server", Chipman and Baron
write in chapter 11: "If your licensing allows you to keep a connection for
each user open, however, that is usually the best choice in a two-tier
system".
What are the licensing issues they are referring to? How does this relate to
MSDE? Are things different with the new SQL Server Express? Or does this
