sharing backend on NAS
I'm thinking of getting a Network Attached Storage such as a Synology:
http://www.synology.com/enu/products/diskstation/DS-101g_plus/index.php?page=overview.html
to share the backend of a FE-BE database with 2-5 users.
Is this possible? How fast must the transfer rates be for it to be reliable?
I know WAN is too slow but what transfer rates are sufficient?

Different FE and replication
Using Acces 2003.
Different FE's: The client will be the main user of the small database
capturing sales information. He wants his sales guys to also have a copy of
the database, but essentially a 'cut down' version which will not show all
the same fields on some of the forms but will allow them to enter the data
to update the database.
1. Each salesguy should only be able to pull ...

Slow Forms Over Network Until Compact/Repair
We just recently upgraded from Windows NT client OS to XP (I have no idea
what the network server is) and from Access 2000 to 2003. I have some
existing applications that run very very slowly when the mdb is run from a
network share, and then run fine when run from my local harddrive.
The weird thing is, when running on the network, if I perform a
Compact/Repair database by going through t...

Word Mail-merge hangs Access and spikes CPU
Hello,
We have a multi-user Access 2003 db, with the tables and forms split.
This works fine for most things. However, when a user does a mail-merge
(from Access to Word), the Access database hangs up and the CPU
utilization spikes. The only way to free it is to reboot. All suggests
appreciated.
Thanks,
ChrisW

Logoff Idle Users
Hello,
I have a MS-Access 97/2003 database, on a Windows XP system acting as a
server for the database. The database is on a Windows network.
At any given time there are 13 to 20 people connected to this database
I need to do the following:
Automatic logoff of devices/Users attached to the database, after 20
minutes of non-use.
Can ANYONE point me to some examples of this process???

Multiple Users Can't Open Database on WIN2003 Server
I recently moved my Access Database from a shared folder on a workstation to
a shared folder on my new 2003 Server. Now it will only allow one user at a
time to open the database. When a second user tries to open the database they
get a "this file is already in use" error. As far as I can tell, sharing and
security are set up correctly.
Before moving it to the server it worked fine. I have ch...

Refresh probelm with MS Access.
Hi All,
I am using MS Access in our application. We are now updating our
application for multi-user environment. While testing I found that the
changes done in one client is not reflecting in the other client

Even when I do some changes manually in DB, and try to see
immediately through application, it is taking time to show the changes.
Is this behaviour dependent o...

access runtime error Windows XP
Hi there,
My Access client program is running in multi-user enviroment. Some user has

There is no way to change user rights. (Company policy)
But the Access runtime (aka AccessRT), (what needs on machines doesn't have
Office) always want to use this folder (C:\Program Files).
I try to install AccessRT to other folder, but it do...

"enabling" an mdb from 2000--how?
I have some co-workers with 97, some with 2000, a few with a later
version.
In an article at www.suite101.com/article.cfm/ms_office2000/118644
I saw this (last paragraph), which seemed to be just the ticket for my
situation:
"Rather than convert an earlier version Access database to Access 2000,
you may want simply to enable an Access database. This is especially
useful in a multiuser e...

Funky Record locking problem
I have a multi user application, running on A2002 in Windows XP.
User/group security is in place. I am receiving a record locking
message which seems a bit odd. It appears when the app attempts to add
text to a memo field and save the current record. The error is 3202
"Could not save; currently locked by another user". The text,
incidentally, IS saved, despite the error message.
Now, my...

I develop multi user applications with front-end/back-end deployment.
Although the front-end is compiled and the back-end in a hidden folder on the

I don't use the access workgroup/user security feature since I use a custom
user entry verification incl access rights feature.

Hi Access gurus,
I want to report an amazing and sudden speedup of my database, which I

definite danger sign.) The front end is on each client's machine as an mdb
file. (I know, it should be mde, and I am working on that.)...

Performance Nightmare and Seemingly Corrupt ldb File
I have a group of people running queries off tables in multiple
versions of Access. To explain my problem I will use the following
scenario:
User running Access 2002 on his desktop to run a query based on a table
in an Access 97 database on the network.
First problem is that the ldb file that gets created for the 97
database, even when he is the only user in it, contains garbage text.
