Problem with html pages
"criswilk" <cwilkinson[ at ]gnld.com.au> 22.12.2005 05:40:19
Hi,

I just upgraded to Access 2003 & want to use a feature that creates
html
pages so multiple users can enter data into the database without having
a
2nd copy of access 2003. I created the page but when I open the html
document I get the following 2 error messages.

"This website is using your identity to access a data source. If you
trust this website, click OK to continue, otherwise click cancel."

"This website uses a data provider that may be unsafe. If you trust the
website, click OK, otherwise click cancel."

After clicking ok it displays the database (which I can navigate
through)
but I can't enter any new data.

Any help on this matter would be great.

Regards
Chris Wilkinson

This is security feature of Access. You must change the security level of
your Local Intranet zone: IE Tools --> Options --> Security --> Custom
Level... . I think that the parameter to set is "Access data sources across
domains". Also, I think that you will have to set one of the parameter for
running ActiveX content but I don't remember which one.

If the page is located on the internet, it is best to add this site to your
list of Trusted Sites instead of change the security settings for the
Internet.

If the page is located on your hard drive or a CD-Rom, then you must set the
settings "Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer" and "Allow
active content to run in files on My Computer"; located in IE Tools -->
Options --> Advanced --> Security.

Finally, if you want to use DAP for other users than those located on a LAN,
then you will run into a lot of configuration problems. For various
reasons, using DAP is rarely a good idea.

Hi Sylvain,

Thanks for your help.

I have been able to stop the error messages but I'm still having
problems enabling the add new records.

Do you have any other ideas, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Regards
Chris Wilkinson

The most probable cause for your problem about adding new records is a
missing primary key on the table. (When the wizard upsize the Access
database to the SQL-Server, the primary keys are not transferred.)

Hello Sylvain,
I appreciate your suggestions about how to over come problems with html
pages. I have a microsoft portal situation at a client's site, i created
tables in SQL which pulls data from an excel sheet to display charts in
the portal, but i have the same problems as described by Chris Wilkins
and some others i read up in the forum, whereby you have to click OK on
2 error messages that come up:"This website uses a data provider that
may be unsafe. If you trust the website, click OK, otherwise click
cancel." and "This website is using your identity to access a data
source. If you trust this website, click OK to continue, otherwise
click cancel."
I did as you suggested about the security level of my local intranet
zone, but only one of the errors stopped which is: "This website uses a
data provider that may be unsafe. If you trust the website, click OK,
otherwise click cancel."
The second one still comes up and i don't know what to do about it. I
really wish i can get some help with it because it is really
frustrating. Thanks a million.

Regards,
Ekuamo.

Hi,

Sorry, but I didn't use DAP since at least two years now and I've forgottent
nearly everything about them. Howerver, from the few glimpses that are
still in my memory, I don't remember to have ever seen the second error
message that you mention. Maybe it's a new security feature that have been
implemented by Microsoft after the time that I've left the field.

In all cases, you should answer back by posting a full reference to my
previous suggestions as I don't remember them myself. This will give me the
possibility of refreshing my memory and see what I can do or find about this
particular problem.
