Embed RTF sequences in WordML
"Christian B MacLeod Guest" <Christian.Guest[ at ]kelton.co.uk> 31.10.2005 23:29:50
We have a program that currently has a lot of RTF data stored in user
databases. We are now moving to using WordML instead of the Text Object
Model we used to use to compose reports.

When using the Text Object Model, it was easy to insert the user data in RTF
format directly into the report, even if it included embedded images etc.

Is their an easy way WITHOUT using Word itself, to convert these RTF
'fragments' into WordML or to just 'embed' them 'inline' into the WordML?

We are currently developing in VB6 so the solution should be accessible via
COM and hopefully not require a huge runtime (e.g. no java solutions) as
this must ship with our application to our clients.

Hi;

www.windwardreports.com can do this. It would be a 2 step process,
first create a rtf report with your fragments merged in using the
wr:escape tag. Then take that document and run it through again to
then create a WordML report.

thanks - dave

I already have a report generation system that creates the WordML file, but
it extracts the plaintext from the RTF using a hidden RTF control so looses
all formatting and embedded images etc. so I could easily create the first
stage file with wr:escape tags.

However this is a standard Win32 application installed on client PCs, not a
network solution so your java server using TCP connection is not a valid
solution. If you have a COM callable dll that does not require the complete
Java runtime and has a very low cost/free runtime licence then we might be
able to consider it. It would also require a very simple installation
(preferably vendor supplied merge modules as our software is XP logo
complient) and no complex activation for each client install.

I have managed to find a similar RTF to XHTML type component which might be
able to meet our needs but have not yet had a change to evaluate it yet...
(FYI SautinSoft's RTF-to-HTML Component)

We have a 100% managed code .net library in alpha. Will that work for
you?

If so, email sales[ at ]windward.net about pricing.
