Remote Database Closing.
ThunderTek 29.09.2006 02:42:01
New problem for me here.

I sometimes have a need to have exclusive access to both front and back end
content.

1. Is there a way that I can shoot a message (as in a timer) that will say
something to the effect "The database will need to come down in 1 minute for
routine maintenance."

2. If anyone walks away front there PC while logged in....can I setup a way
to be able to close the databse from my PC (close all open instances of the
dB)?

You can't directly close their database, but you can, with a timer event and
a one record, one field table in the back end, cause theirs to close.

It does require either a form that says open as long as the app is running,
or a timer event it every form. (The first is better and has some other
benefits)

Set the form's timer event to check the value of the field and take the
appropriate action, for example:

If blnTimeExpired Then
Docmd.Quit
End If
