How can i disable the right-click menu in word??
"The Caller" <caller10023[ at ]hotmail.com> 27.09.2006 11:50:14
I have managed to write protect my word document, so it is now
"Read-Only".

However, anyone reading my document can "Select-All" then right-click,
"Copy" & "Paste".

Is there a way of disabling the right-click menu so the user cannot
Select-All, Copy & Paste the document elsewhere?

Thanks.

No, there is not. Word simply is not a high-security environment. If you
give someone access to your document, you've lost control of it.

You can attempt to disable the right-click menu, but that requires a macro.
All the user needs to do is set his/her macro security level to High -- the
macro will be disabled, and the right-click menu will be available.

You can publish the document as a PDF file from Adobe Acrobat, which lets
you "protect" the PDF against text selection, printing, etc. However, there
are PDF readers that simply ignore the protections, so that isn't really any
more secure than Word. It will simply slow down unsophisticated users.

In addition to Jay's insights, even if you could disable the contextual menu
it is only one of several ways to Select All/Cut/Copy/Paste - and *probably*
one of the least commonly used. What is to keep someone from using
Ctrl+A,Ctrl+C, Paste to new doc or simply doing a Save As in a format that
doesn't support protection?

Hi The,

Word 2003 (which I assume you're using) supports IRM (Information Rights
Management) that can selectively prevent certain types of actions for a
document. But that requires having a Windows 2003 Server in the
background to maintain the lists of who's allowed to do what.

If you think that may be an option for you, you can research IRM in the
Knowledge Base on microsoft.com.
