Is this a bug in spelling?
JeffH 23.08.2006 19:44:02
I've never noticed this but I am wondering if this is the behavior of Word or
if it is a bug. I have a user that pointed out an issue with Spell check
that I wanted to confirm. He has these options checked off under Tools |
Options | 'Spelling and Grammar' tab checked: 'Check spelling as you type',
'Always suggest corrections', 'Suggest from main dictionary only', 'Ignore
words with numbers', 'Check grammar as you type', and 'Check grammar with
spelling'.

If he mistypes a word in the first sentence of a new document, the error
does not appear with a line under it until he hits 'Enter' or types a period.
Is this the way Word 2002 should behave or am I missing something like a
patch? He is using MS WOrd ver 10.6612.6714 SP3.

Thanks in advance,
JeffH

Hi Jeff,

FWIW I don't see this in Word 2003. It could be a little "glitch" in Word 2002,
or maybe even "by design". I know that the language recognition, for example,
needs a "kick" of the sort you describe to get it started.

If you want official confirmation, one way or another, you'll have to contact
Microsoft Support. These newsgroups are peer-to-peer support.

I've seen that behavior when Detect Language Automatically is enabled. The
problem is that Word doesn't know which dictionary/proofing set to use until
it is sure about what language you're writing in.

You can turn this formatting setting off as the default in Normal.dot, and
it shouldn't happen anymore. Of course, he won't get Detect language
automatically anymore, either. It's a choice...
