For my information, I checked your suggestion and surprisingly, it works! I mean, surprisingly since I fail to see the connection between smart quotes, except being French language related.
I guess the OP has his reasons for wanting this. AFAIK, the Swiss flavor of French (and may be some others) does not want those spaces (which are the rule in Continental French) which are giving me a hard time in a different way (thread "Distinguishing hard spaces from regular spaces" in vba.general).
