Close and open document. Paras have returned to normal.....

Option 1 (best practice): don't use manual formatting. If your document
needs italicised pars, define a style for it.

Option 2: Tool > Templates and add-ins. Clear the 'Automatically update
document styles'

Tools>Templates and Add-ins>Attach... Clear the "Automatically update
styles on open" checkbox :-)

Your template is reverting your styles on document open.
