Hi Gill,
you can launch the spell-checker from Access
*** To add the Spelling icon to a toolbar ***
1. right-click in a light gray area to the right of the toolbars and menus 2. choose "Customize" from the shortcut menu 3. click on the "Commands" tab 4. in the Categories list, choose "Tools" 5. in the Commands list, scoll until you see the Spelling icon (ABC with checkmark -- 2nd "page" of options) 6. drag the Spelling icon to your Form View (or whatever) toolbar
Now, when you are in a field you want to check, simply click the icon...
*** to launch the spell-checker with a shortcut key ***
Alternately, you can press the F7 key when you are in the field you want to check
