Hi all
Just read Bugs's troubles with Access on Vista Beta2
I have been developing for some time now and are a little concerned about Vista. Has anyone else any idea how existing programs and new instalations of Access will work with the new MS Vista?
Along with words that strike fear into every developer please find some kind words like "it will be OK" or "Stop worrying" and "don't you think that Microsoft will sort all those nasty little bugs out for you!!". Please,,

My understanding is that Vista has been delayed. PRESUMABLY they're working on it. SP-0 of the product, that is.
Howzat? <grin>
Oh alright. Stop worrying. There's no extra charge for the bugs.

Someone is encountering problems in a Beta? This is not news! There are *supposed* to be problems with Betas. That's what Betas are for, to find the problems. If there weren't any problems, there wouldn't be any need for Betas.
No, Microsoft will not fix all the bugs in Vista. They didn't fix all the bugs in Windows XP, or Windows 2000, or Windows NT, or Windows 9.x, or ... well, I'm sure you get the picture. The world did not come to an end when any of those operating systems were released. It probably won't come to an end with the release of Vista, either.
Words that strike fear into every developer? You're kidding, right? Didn't you know that developers know no fear? :-)

I know some MVPs are working with A2007 inside Vista. I doubt the bugs will be substantial.

Thank you gentlemen. That's a great help.
I have a young 21 year old in the family who works for an organisation in the high end of IT instalation and consultancy. He is convinced that the world will end when MS launch Vista. Is it common for consultants to frighten the pants off everyone. I'm sure it cannot be in their interest to have lots of customers contacting them for advice about the latest apocalypse,,,,,,,,,,, can it?

Almost all new PCs will be shipped with Vista once it becomes available. So I don't see how MS can make it a disaster.

And I have a 54yr-old cynical twin brother who looks just like me...I only post on his behalf <vbg>
Seriously now, I discourage anything without an SP number, because the first users are guinea pigs. Lemmings. Moles and Earthworms and other blind things. Of course, one can't stop customers buying latest Windows, though one can control (say) Access Runtime version (this is a toolkit newsgroup).
I believe it's common for consultants to be wary of brand-new software. Just look at Access95, which was the first 32-bit Access.
Where did you read the bug troubles? If it was on MS site or likely to be brought to their attention, then they must be working on it. If you're participating in a beta, shouldn't you be notifying them? To me, existing Access s/w either works or doesn't on Vista, and I don't intend to find out before necessary. By that time, hopefully there'll be a bunch of Lemmings in the newsgroups who can give us the benefit of their experience. !!!
