File Properties and Adobe Acrobat .pdf
"Raymond" <raymond_oneill(REMOVE)[ at ]dec.state.ak.us> 28.08.2006 17:53:13
hello...

does anyone know a way that I can carry over the MS Word File Properties to
the .pdf file that I generate...? Currently I have to re-enter the file
property information when I create a pdf of my Word document.

I'm using Word in Office 2003 and Acrobat 6.05.

I've tried using the Word Macro and the print driver for producing pdf with
Adobe.

Thanks in Advance for any insight provided,

Raymond

I'm not able to test this, but if you go into Word Print Options, check the
button the Add File Properties. Now if you print to PDF, does it add the
Properties at the end of the file?

Thanks Terry,
Your suggestions does cause Acrobat to print the file properties in the
document. Acrobat adds a page to the end of the document with file
properties printed on it.

What I'm hoping to see happen is to print with Acrobat and have the
resulting .pdf file have associated file properties that are recognized by
Windows Explorer and visible when I view file details in Windows Explorer.

Thank for your help!

Raymond

I don't think that is possible. Try Adobe to see if they have a definitive
answer.

I don't believe you'll get it through the Properties because that is
primarily a Windows tool just as Get Info is in Mac OS X.

However *much* of the info you seek should be in the file and accessible -
even editable - through VersionCue or Adobe Bridge. The subject you want to
research is 'metadata'. Just keep in mind that much of the Properties that
are used in Word are specific to the doc file and don't pertain to the PDF
because it is a different file altogether... simply based on the doc.

So my question should be "how do I copy meta data from Office files to PDF
when using the Adobe Acrobat print driver, and maintain the Windows display
formating of that meta data..."

Thanks! I'll keep asking around...

Raymond

I think you're going to need a specially written application. Bear in
mind that this metadata will not survive a copy to a non-NTFS device.
