/Runtime Switch seems easy to disable.

Hi;

Have been reading about "How to distribute a secured database", (Article ID
205151 for A2K)

It states: "Specify the /runtime switch on all command lines that you use to
start the application"

Found this example at http://www.kbalertz.com

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSAccess.exe" "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Samples\Northwind.mdb" /runtime

It seems to me anyone w/some knowledge would simply open the short cut and
remove "/runtime".

Am I missing something?

Andy

Runtime is a licensing mechanism NOT a security measure.

You should indeed assume that any of your customers may have Full Access.

I'm not sure why you posted to all those newsgroups and missed the one called
"security". I guess that newsgroup is pretty secure :-)

Chris

That this is not "security", but just the erection of a barrier. For all
those users who wouldn't know to modify the shortcut then it is a barrier.
For those that do know this, it is not.

Rick and Chris;

Thank You for the answers.

Chris, the reason I didn't post to "Security" is because I didn't know it
existed.
Do now! ;-()

Thank both for Your kindness.

Andy
