Help please. Replication Manager won't start.

Had a hard drive start to fail this weekend. It was getting a little sticky
on startup, but once it started, it was fine. I got a new hard drive and
proceeded to use the hard drive setup program to configure the new drive.

The failing drive had two partitions C (OS) and D (replica database).

The hard drive program did a sector by sector copy of the C partion. I did
the transfer of database to the D partition.. All file structures were
maintained. When the old drive was removed, and the new drive put in it
place, the system booted fine. All IIS, IP, etc setting appear to have been
preserved. Remote users could sync without any problems.

My problem is that Replication Manager will not start. I get the splash
screen, followed by the message: "Microsoft Replication Manager can't start
a Microsoft Jet database session." This make no sense. I can start access
and check the database. Others are synching via the internet. I can do a
direct sync to another database on a different server. My scheduled syncs
to the different server and to the design master are not taking place.

I've recopied the Replication Manager 4.0 folder from the CD to C:\Program
Files\. I'm using MOD from the Office XP Cd set.

How do I get Replication Manager to behave again and run? Is there another
way to get scheduled syncs to work?

TIA
Don

I think you should copy all the files over again, including the
replication DLLs that are stored in System32.

Could be a registry problem, too.

Scheduled synchs should still work as long as the synchronizer is
running (ReplMan doesn't have to be running for the scheduled synchs
to happen). You don't have a UI for them, but the UI in ReplMan
pretty much sucks, anyway. You could still use the TSI Synchronizer
or JRO to change the schedule.

Thanks David.

Did recopy the files, including the replication DLLs. I'm with you in
thinking that the problem is in the registry. I'm tempted to clear the
Configured setting to see if a reconfiguration will fix the problem.

I did start the synchronizer manually, and the scheduled synchs are now
working fine without Replman running. Wahoo!

Can I use the TSI sychronizer with the replication synchronizer? How does
TSI play with the rest of the replication software?

Thanks,

Don
