No text appears in excell

When I type in the top box or a cell no text shows up. On one of my forms
all the text was actually omited when I opened. What happened?

All workbooks you open in Excel behave this way?

Even a new workbook from File>New?

Or just one or a few workbooks?

Does it happen on all sheets of a workbook?

By "top box" I assume you mean "formula bar".

What kind of "form"?

You changed your text color to white?

After typing into the formula bar at the top, go and select the cell you
were typing in to and highlight it and one or two more around it - see if you
can suddenly see the text. That would indicate that the text has been turned
white.

Or simply click in a cell that you believe should have something in it and
see if it appears at the top in the formula bar.

There are other possibilities, but this would be something to check early on.

All workbooks. I even opened an existing file and all the text had
disappeared. I've already tried changing the colors. Yes I meant the
formula bar. that too has no visable text.

When you click on Format>Style and Normal what are the attributes?

I'm just scratching around now because it would take two or more things to turn
off both cell text and formula bar text visibility but only on a sheet basis.

I don't know of any combinations that would affect all workbooks and worksheets
including existing ones.

I have never suggested this before but.........Mayhaps it is time to do a good
virus scan?

Hopefully this is not the case and someone will come up with something for you.

I think that there was someone who posted the same kind of problem--just a few
days ago.

They posted back that as soon as they stopped using multiple monitors, the
problem disappeared.

Are you using multiple monitors?

Have you tried taking any of the workbooks to another computer with Excel on
it and seeing how they look on that computer?

I agree with Gord Dibben that there is a potential that some malware has
done this, although I haven't heard of one just picking on the contents of an
Excel workbook - but stranger things have been done. Because of this risk,
you may want to be certain that the other machine has a strong, updated
anti-virus application running on it.

There are several sites that offer online scanning of both your computer and
individual files, one that I trust is at Kaspersky Labs:
