I have to make a presentation using powerpoint and need to know if I can make
notes visable only to me on my screen (for reference) and not projectable on
the screen that others are viewing?....PLEASE HELP....

Assuming that your lappie can support dual monitors then slide show>set up show
Tick presenter view and show on monitor 2

You can enable presenter's view through Slide Show > Set Up Show which allows
you to view the notes without showing it to the audience. Check this out:
