Terry has given you some possible pointers. If you're saying what I think you're saying, and you have Word 2002 or 2003, select the paragraph that is formatted the way you want the given style to be. Then click the arrow beside the target style in the Styles and Formatting task pane and choose "Update to Match Selection."
