I received a Word.dot (template) Why does spell checker not work?

I received a Word.dot (template) Why does spell checker not work?

Also, apparently this template is password protected - can I remove password
protection on this template document?

The templates simply works as a form. The idea of a password protection is so
that users can't change the standard sections of what is intended. Do a SAVE
AS and change the SAVE AS TYPE to ".doc". You should then be able to spell
check.

Thanks for the response - I tried your solution and it did not work -
additional research indicates that something called IRM - Information Rights
Management - may be the culprit - this is a county form - but my client needs
spell checker for the text that they enter on the form

Unless someone else has a solution, it might be faster to contact the
originator. My gov't is still researching IRM and it has not been implemented
within my dept. Sorry couldn't help out.

Thank you for your effort.

Yes, this is what I recommended to my client.
