Passwords in Word 2007 Melba 19.09.2006 05:29:02 I can't find a simple means of creating or changing a password for opening a Word document and/or modifying a document. (Tools/Options/Save in Word 2000). I've added the Encrypt button to the Quick Access Toolbar but it doesn't do anything or show any options. In Review/Protect Document, the options for protecting formatting or editing are not what I want. When I open a Word 2000 passworded document in Word 2007, I have to give the password, but when I then check in Review/Protect Document, nothing is checked. I really need and want the easy old 'create password to open' function. Thanks!

Click it and pick General Options. Please could Microsoft include this option in the 'Help' index so when those of us coming from older versions search on 'password' we can find that info as well as all the stuff that's irrelevant to the need for a simple document password? Does going over the "FILE"/Prepare/Encrypt document command prompt you for a password? (It does here.)
