I can't paste text from another word file into my word files

Microsoft Word 2003. I can't seem to paste text from other Word file into any
my my Word file, i.e. I cannot transfer text from one file into another. I
can copy the necessary text but when I paste, nothing happens. I have not
turned on the Protect Document Function and I have checked to see that it is
not on.

Are you able to paste in other applications? From other applications into Word?
From Word into other applications?

How about if you hold down CTRL to start Word in "safe mode"? Can you copy/paste
while in Safe mode?

Hi,

Strangely enough, I can import text from powerpoint into word. Not tried the
safe mode option as not sure how to do it.

On checking further, it would appear that only this one file is affected. I
also cannot copy and paste text from this file into another word file (nor
copy and paste text from another file into this one)

I have tried saving the file under a different name but to no avail. This is
a really important file and I need to be able to salvage it.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

As I said, hold down the CTRL key when you start Word...

How about if you create a new document, press ENTER (because you need to type
something into it), then use Insert/File to bring in the problem document?

Note: Word 2003 supports a special kind of protection called IRM. This lets the
document be protected in special ways. If the file has been protected in this
manner, then only the person who created the file, or to whom full permissions
were granted, will be able to do "everything" with it. I'm assuming you'd know
if this kind of protection has been applied?
