alpha

Why has any alpha (?) I insert in my Word 2003 Sp1 documents through 'insert
symbol' an accute accent on top of it? I know ALT-224 still works, but I
prefer to use 'insert symbol' and would like to make a shortcut key .
It didn't use to be like this, did it? Is it something of Word 2003?
Thanks in advance
S

That question mark I see above in my post should have been an alpha,
inserted with alt-224; so in OE that doesn't work either. It looked like one
before I sent it though.

Try this:
Go to Insert > Symbol. Find the symbol you want to insert.
Click it just once -- don't actually insert it.
Now look at the bottom of the box -- do you see an option for
"Shortcut Key"? If so, click on that. Choose a key combination that
you like. Maybe Alt+A. Assign it, save it.
After that, when you click Alt-A you get the alpha symbol.

Right, this is exactly how I used to do it.
Now here is my problem. All I can find is an alpha with an acute accent on
it.
I want one without it, but I can't find it. I am not sure whether this is
since I use Word 2003.
Thanks anyway.

Are you choosing "normal font?"
What font are you usnig?

You might try posting in the fonts.printing NG too. It gets more
traffic.
