File -> Open gives xla file not found when trying to open in Excel 2003

I get this error message

'idxlcom.xla' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name,
and verify that the file location is correct.

If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used
files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed,
moved, or deleted.

-Then the "open" is disabled...

Every time I click file open this pops up..and i click ok and the
message goes away but i can never open a file in excel 2003. I've
searched the registry and the computer for that file name and nothing
comes up. Any ideas

Hi,
Open Excel, go to Tools --> Add-Ins,
Click on the name of every checked add-in, if the add-in has been deleted
Excel will ask you if you wish to remove it from the list, say yes.
