Run time thin client of MS Access
sebastian stephenson 20.07.2006 14:01:01
I would like to deploy a version of MS Access that users cannot utilise as
the full version, sort of a read only, thin client version of the soeftware.

Does anyone know of this type of version of Access?

I dont want to distribute a version that is locked in VBA - as people always
manage to find a way to get around the locking code and play around with the
back end of the database.

Please help.

Not read only and not thin client but the runtime version of Access
does not allow users to make any changes to the objects, that is
queries, forms, reports and modules.

Follow the link to
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/developereditionversions.htm from the link
Tony gave you.

You need one of the 6 products listed there. Of course, the only one
Microsoft sells anymore is the latest one (Visual Studio Tools for the
Microsoft Office System), so your options are a little limited...

The runtime is not something you can just download for free. In order to be
licensed to distribute the runtime to your users you have to *purchase* the
developer's tools for your version of Access.

The runtime is free for *users*, but not for the developer. While there has
been a place on Microsoft's web site where some versions of the runtime can be
downloaded those pages do state that the download is only intended for people
who hold proper licenses for the developers tools.

Why would you want to use the runtime on a PC that already has Access installed
anyway?

I work for a government agency that holds a MS Enterprise License - so we are
licensed to use any MS product within our LAN.

I would like deploy MS Access interfaces using the Runtime client so as to
remove the ability for users to have the full client installed on their
terminal and remove the ability to create their own databases.
