You mention both AVG and McAfee, if you are running two AV apps they often interfere / cause compatibility problems and neither may work correctly. If the OL 'test accounts' work ok then there is no real reason as to why you cannot recieve other mail, as presumably you received ok on the test? and this uses your account settings to send/receive.
