How do I add a trendline to a chart?

I need to add a basic trendline to a chart. I know I have seen it before but
I can't find it now that I need it. Go figure...

Double click the chart to bring up the chart designer interface. Then
single click on the series in the chart that you want to add a trendline
for. Once selected then right-click and choose "Add trendline" from the
menu.

Thanks but that option is greyed out. Any idea why?

What is the chart type? Some types don't support trendlines. Column graphs
and line graphs definitely should and area graphs definitely do not. I'd
have to look at any others.

yes, I think it must have something to do with the way I created the chart.
