PST forensics - what algorithm is used for Block Checksums
"Brian Ellis" <dev[ at ]null.edu> 19.07.2006 21:08:28
I'm working on a data recovery project and aim to do forensic analysis of
the pst database. I've determined that each block in the pst file has a
32-bit checksum field in its footer (at offset 0x08 before 2k3 and offset
0x04 >= 2k3). For the life of me, I can't seem to find what algorithm is
used to calculate this value. I've tried just about every standard MDx,
SHAx, CRC, and Hamming algorithm that I can think of, so if anybody knows
anybody on the Outlook development team, please bring this question to their
attention.
