importing text into access 2002 DavidAtCaspian 17.07.2006 11:06:01 I did a search on the above, but found nothing useful, and can't believe I am the first to get this. Trying to import a text file into Access 2002 SP3. It is delimited with the tilde (~) I get to the wizard screen where I should be able to select which fields to bring in, set the type and decide what to call them. BUT, whatever I do, the top section of the screen only works on field1. I can highlight say field23, in the lower part of the screen, make the changes I want in the top half, but ACCESS still only changes the import details for fiield1. I saw that a couple of years ago someone had a similar problem with Excel (which also has never to my knowledge wroked properly.) Did Microsoft ever sort this one out? Or am I missing something?? The database itself is brand new and in Access 2000 format. Thanks

Looking down this thread just for 'text' has revealed that there is a hotifx for this. I follow the link to get an article that describes the hotfix, but doesn't tel me how to get it. I do get a link though. I follow this and just get a suppport home page. I trawl through there to find that it's going to cost me £35 to ask for it. This is crazy. I know I have a problem. Microsoft acknowledges that this is an error in their own software, will tell me which files are need to fix this bug, but now want me to pay to ask for the fix. Please how do I get the hotfix I need????????? I finally got through to a real person on the phone (at close on premium rates in the UK). Remember, all I want is the fix for the problem they introduced with SP3 (which is needed because without it any date imported from Excel changes to US format, and then when read in English is either wrong or invalid). Well after talking for about five minutes and handing over my name and email address and product ID key, was told that they won't supply the hotfix to the likes of me, it has to be someone responsible for the volume licensing agreement. And then to cap it all, would it be OK for them to add me to their junk email list. Who else could get away with such a combination of arrogance and sloppy products.
