Numbering Outline Again
Aurora 05.07.2006 12:16:02
I am using Word 2003
Thank you Syzanne for your suggestion. I did check my Heading 1 numbering and
everything appears to be correct. All the numbers are shaded, they all say
they follow the previous level and the headings are correct. But I am still
having a numbering problem beginning with level 3 - See my Example:

1. 2.
1.1 2.1
1.2 1.2.1
1.3 1.2.2
3.1.1 2.2.1.1
3.1.2 2.2.1.2
3.1.3 2.2.1.2.2
3.1.3.1

Do you or anyone else have any other suggestions as to what may be wrong?
I am getting very fustrated.

Follow the instructions at: How to create numbered headings or outline
numbering in your Word document
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. (For
bullets see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/bullets/controlbullets.html, the
subject is related.) Those instructions work, but only if you follow them
exactly.

This is based on ...

A couple of other points:

When posting about something you've already received responses on, post as a
reply in that thread rather than starting a new topic. I have no idea what
advice you've already received. When you post a reply, it shows up with
everything you originally said (so you don't have to repeat) along with
advice you've already seen and responded to (so others don't have to
repeat).

I think you mean Suzanne.

You've got the fields for Levels 1 and 2 reversed in the Level 3 "number
format." Clear that whole box for Level 3 (just select everything and press
Delete) and start from scratch. When the box is empty, click on the arrow
beside "Previous level number" and choose Level 1. This will insert a gray
1. Type a period. Then insert Level 2 and a period. Then change the "Number
style" from "(none)" to "1, 2, 3 ..." This should put you right.
