Thank you. I had read the words, "any version of Office" to mean exactly that. But I finally remembered the trick which someone else had suggested a couple years ago..... copy the Access exe from the CD over to the Office folder on the hard drive. The install process sees it, accepts it, and allows the upgrade installation to continue. Did that a few minutes ago with success and can now open my database once again..... have a great week!
