Word COM ADD In help needed
"KeithM" <keith.mallett[ at ]nospam.baesystems.com> 10.07.2006 14:59:49
Hi all,

I have a COM Add In written in .NET C# and running on XP with Office 2003.

The add in stores some data for each document and displays this in a custom
toolbar when documents are loaded.
However when I launch word by clicking on a hyperlink, with a href to a
document, in IE, my custom toolbar does not appear.
I have to go into View\Toolbars and select it for it to become visible.
This does not happen when just double clicking a file on the hard disk when
using Windows Explorer.
I have tried deleting Normal.dot between launchings of Word but this makes
no difference.

I should add that in the "OnStartupComplete" AddIn function I use code to
physically make the toolbar visible but it still wont work from hyplerlinks.
It is as though something else is happening after I have recieved the Word
connection events that is overwriting my settings.

If anyone can throw any light on what is happening or how I can get round
this I would be very grateful as I have been 2 weeks looking for a fix so
far.

Yours hopefully!

Hi KeithM,

Have you tried searching the message base in the office.developer.addins
newsgroup? You can also try searching here:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=16&SiteID=1&PageID=0

I've seen it answered, but I can't remember the details of the answer.
Basically, it's expected behavior when a Word doc loads into IE, but I can't
remember why, or whether there's any way to get around the problem.

Note: this group is aimed at end-users, not developers. If someone knows an
answer, they'll tell you. But generally this level of question won't get a
reply, here :-)

Thanks for that Cindy. I have looked on the forum site as you suggested but
my searches havent turned up anything.

I've also posted the query on a more relevant group.
