Searches for file names
PA 11.07.2006 20:08:02
Sorry about previous post, submitted in error regarding Wildcard searches

The question is:
Word 2002 provides the capability to conduct a wildcard search by file name
in the Open dialog box by entering, for example, *vac*. If the Enter key is
pressed, the file list will be limited to only files with vac in the file
name.
Is the a way to specify more than one search criteria to accomplish finding
files with vac or cross in the file name.
Thanks.
Paul

Hi Paul,

Haven't tried with the file search, but usually in such dialogs you can
specify comma-separated expressions/alternatives:
*vac*,*cross*

(or more generally: separated by the Windows field separator, say a ";" in
German Win XP)

Klaus

Sorry, no. In the Word Open dialog, you'll have to run separate
searches to handle an "or" condition.

However, you can do this in the Windows Explorer ("My Computer")
search pane. Separate the values with commas, as in
*vac*,*cross*

In the findings, double-click a file to open it in Word.
