Sharing a BCM Database with Domain Users
je7383 10.07.2006 23:04:02
I'm using Outlook 2003 with BCM and am having problems sharing the database
with another domain user.

When I add the user and fill in the username and domain, it looks like it is
going to add the user. It lists domain\username in the list of users to share
with, but after I click finish, the domain user disappears.

If I click the Browse button, the only location that it allows me to choose
users from is the local machine. It won't allow me to add domain users.

The account that I'm sharing the database under is a local administrator,
but not a domain admin. The workstation where the DB is located is not using
simple file sharing, but I granted everyone full permission to the directory
as a test, but it didn't help.

Thanks.

File and directory permissions should not matter. The key is whether
the user has permission to connect to the database.

Try typing in the user with domain, like this: thisdomain\theuser

I'm unable to grant the user permission to access the database. (See original
message)

Thanks for the info!

When I returned to the client site where this is taking place, more strange
things were happening. When I went back into Outlook on the machine that I
was trying to share the data from, all of the BCM menus and toolbars had
disappeared, and were no longer able to be activated. THe database was
accessible though.

I uninstalled (including removal of files and registry keys) and
re-installed both Office and BCM several time to no avail. Finally, I logged
into the same workstation as a different user and all worked fine. When I
logged back in as the original user however, everything (BCM Menus etc...)
was inaccessible.

The client had said that other strange things were happening as well, so
they are going to re-format and re-load then call me back in. I bet that it
takes care of the problem, but I'll post upon my return.

Thanks for the input.
