My laptop recently crashed and I need to reinstall my office student/teacher edition. I had originally converted it online after my trial expired. Now in order to reinstall it, I need the product key and can't find it. Is there any way to find this product key now?

I assume they sent you an email. Didn't you keep that?

I sasve most of my messages in my general email inbox, but I ordered it a year ago when I bought the laptop. I searched my email and it automatically erases after a year. So, nope I don't have it in email. I thought it should be on the case somewhere, but I can't find it. Wouldn't Microsoft have record of my online purchase? I'm shocked it's not in the cd case at all.

Why would it be on the CD case if you converted it online? It is your responsibility to keep this information in a safe place and backup your system. I don't mean to be harsh, but you seem like you might just be trolling for a free key.

Nope, that is NOT what I'm doing. I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way to get the key from Microsoft if they have record of the online conversion because I'm sure they have record of mailing me the CD. I realize that I should have printed the email, but I didn't so before paying the $149.00 for a new one, I thought I'd double check just to make sure. I am an HONEST person! One shouldn't judge!! :)

No, they don't keep it. The public screams enough about the info Microsoft has about their systems. If they kept a record about who owns which version of their software all hell would break loose.
I'm a bit confused about your original post. Just because a system crashes doesn't mean you've lost Office. What exactly happened and what exactly did you do? My answer changes depending on how you respond.

What email program are you using? If Outlook, then look for an archive .pst and open it in Outlook (File->Open->Outlook Data file) and look for your email there. Then copy it to your notes where it should be available - as well as print it out and keep it with your valuables. I would burn a copy of the installation files as well, then mark the PID on the CD. YOu can never be too careful.
