After literally weeks & weeks of travail, finally found a solution to the above problem [ at ] The Elder Geek on Windows XP. It's, quite simply, 'Uninstall Programs Manually.' At least it worked for me. Was able to, finally, successfully reinstall Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Beta).
